Ode to Madhubani
Indian Quilts

Artist Statement/ Description/ Method
This quilt is my tribute to Madhubani Paintings, a traditional folk-art form from Bihar, an Indian state, that goes back to the days of the great epic, Ramayana. I feel extremely proud and privileged to have learnt Madhubani art from Ms. Vidushini Prasad. The art form employs a two-dimensional imagery and the motifs depicted are strictly limited to deities from the ancient epics, people, nature and/ their interconnected celebratory associations. In this quilt, I have used unbleached cotton fabric to give the effect of the traditional cow dung washed base. The outlines of the designs in my paintings have been first quilted down in the FMQ method and the colors have been filled. Loved and enjoyed this translation of Madhubani art to a quilt.
