Artist Statement/ Description/ Method
14,220 minutes, 75600 stitches, each stitch a meditative repetition of a mantra.
Made of 108 individual quilts of 4 inches square held together by pins, the quilt allows the air to flow through, much like Tibetan prayer flags that carry prayers along with the wind. The spirals emanating from the centre of each quilt signify my human journey from inside out embracing the world in the first four decades followed by an outside-in movement as I now move inward collecting myself. The quilt's shape can be altered - elongated today, a square tomorrow, a tall obelisk the day after. Kinetic, ever moving and an exploration in mindfulness, the piece is still growing in meditative moments, one stitch at a timeā¦108 and counting
