Artist Statement/ Description/ Method
This quilt is a marriage of Japanese and Indian fabrics. Life of a child is represented in this quilt. Hand embroidered Shashiko panels are made of motifs of childhood. Contemporary Japanese indigo fabrics frame these motifs to represent the path to adult hood. Vintage Japanese Ikat fabrics finish the edges, representing the silvers years. Indian hand dyed batik fabrics traverse from light to a dark burgundy tone. Lighter tones represent childhood, while the dark burgundy tone represents the richer tones of the silver years. Traditional floral quilting has been employed to represent the garden of life with many winding paths in life that bloom. Piecing and quilting done by Viraj Thakore.
