Mary is a true representation of the kind-hearted and hardworking people of Uganda. She hails from a small town called Kasese at the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains. She moved to the capital city, Kampala in search of work and offered to help me around the house. Often while working she would pop in to see me quilting and share her thoughts with a smile. Little does she know, she and her daughter, Melisha are the inspiration for this quilt.
This quilt is made entirely with printed fabrics. For the dresses on Mary and Melisha I have chosen African prints. To be true to the photograph, I quilted the face densely and retained the nature of the African fabric with minimal quilting.
