Ever since I started quilting, I make it a point to visit local quilt shops when I travel. For our 10th wedding anniversary, my husband, daughter and I went to Big Island, Hawaii. Coincidentally, there was a shop-hop in progress on the Big Island and we visited all 6 quilt stores, and got 1 block pattern from each store, along with some additional lovely Hawaiian theme-based fabrics/patterns. While working on the quilt, I have reminisced about the lovely time we had in Hawaii. The quilt captures the lovely sandy beaches as well the landscape that has been shaped by the active volcanoes there.
I have put the quilt together using applique techniques and straight line quilting is done for binding the 3 layers.
