This quilt imagines the beginning of spring in an unusual palette of colours that includes lemon yellows, melons, beiges, tans and sapling green. It is an improvisational design, pieced together using remnant fabrics, in a woven-like tapestry style with bands aligning both vertically and horizontally. Carefully embroidered lines in the central panel not only add texture, but also gradients to this minimal design so that the colours appear to be changing at each glance. The quilting lines are vertically spaced at one-quarter inch intervals, with some areas left empty so as to bring forth certain sections of the design. This piece was designed to evoke springtime, and with it a sense of hope.
