Artist Statement/ Description/ Method
My 8th grade virtual school classes run only for half the day allowing me to spend the afternoons exploring art. In August, I learnt curve piecing and precision piecing with a no-pins technique. Around that time, Mr. Augusto of Capital A Quilts had a call-out for pattern testers for a gorgeous curvy design called Magnolia Quilt. To challenge myself, my mom encouraged me to sign up.
This pattern has many sizes of classic drunkard’s path blocks – 2 inch, 3.5 inch, 4 inch, 8 inch and 10 inch. Sewing up the large 10 inch curves was the most fun! I ended up making it more complex by choosing prints where you need to worry about directionality.
I learnt a lot about how to de-construct a shape and assemble units with precision.
