My mother introduced me to drawing rangolis. I remember her creating amazing patterns by joining dots in a particular fashion. One of the patterns that seemed like magic to me was the Hridaya Kamala pattern. In this rangoli, a beautiful and intricate lotus shaped pattern emerges when the rangoli dots are radially joined. My mother told me that drawing this rangoli helps open our hearts like the petals of a lotus and usher in good health and success.

I had always wanted to create a quilt with this pattern in my mother's memory, but I never got around to starting it. With the pandemic reducing my professional projects, I finally had the time to create this piece. I hope that this quilt brings good health and prosperity to everyone in 2021.
