Artist Statement/ Description/ Method
Sometimes a pattern speaks to me, but this quilt is all about fabric. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer who taught people how to build cookstoves in Niger ‘85-’87. These stoves helped people save wood and they the name of this quilt is French and Hausa for “improved cookstove”. I’ve kept this fabric for all these years and finally created this quilt! The quilter, Tina Katwal, paid special attention to the details in the fabric and outlined many of the featured prints. It is my keepsake quilt for that experience.
