Artist Statement/ Description/ Method
I am an 8th grader, who loves math. I wanted to try out an abstract pattern borne out of my fascination with geometry.
This is a pattern free design that I would like to call Geometric Improv. I picked out five colours, cut them into 1.5 inch and 2 inch strips and strip pieced them into identical sets. Then, using the 45 degree angle on my quilting ruler, I cut some parallelograms and triangles. I sewed together these shapes with an intentional staggered line as I did not want to match up all the colours when piecing it back together. I think this helped create movement and play in the design. I christened the quilt Vajra because of the thunderbolt design that naturally emerged from my experimentation.
