Artist Statement/ Description/ Method
This artwork is inspired by the world heritage site of Rani nu Vav stepwell, Gujarat. Interplay of muted and bright tones is utilised for creating depth, shadows and lights for differentiating step-levels that leads a seeker to the quiet retreats of the well preserved pond. This is a contemporary fusion of Kowdhi style piecing, Lambani embroidery & traditional Indian fabrics. Embellished shimmers, mirrorwork & fabric overlays of see-through fabric gives a sense of fluidity and glistening reflection with sun-kissed water reservoir. This artwork uses fabrics that hold immense emotive value to the artiste who views the stepwell as a metaphorical interpretation of her own emotional journey while descending down to her inner most thoughts.
