Dimensions: 152.4 x 122
Artist Statement/ Description/ Method: What's it about spirals and applique spirals? A curiosity and amazement with the form and shape took me into a journey reminiscent of life's journey. Step by step, from one moment to the next, from one phase to the next , it moves and lays centered on the strong bonds of love that exists in the family. This quilt started as a small trial and ended up as a big piece, with so much discovery and learning happening in the process. Just like Life!!!

Lost Souls
Lost Souls
Sonalee Suchismita

Country: INDIA

Dimensions: 73 x 76 x 0.5
Artist Statement/ Description/ Method: A whole cloth quilt with a red banner at the bottom and a kutchi motif in red at the top right corner made of 'dori'(thin tube made of fabric), is reminiscent of the Red Cross. It symbolizes the medical fraternity that is working tirelessly to pull us out of these trying times of COVID-19. The small, soft white motifs strewn around represent released souls rising above the prism of life and blood. The whole arena of blue is encompassed in a red double fold binding, reflecting the still ominous boundary of fear and blood surrounding us.

Sonalee Suchismita

Country: INDIA

Dimensions: 33 x 41 x 0.5
Artist Statement/ Description/ Method: This quilt uses the Interleave quilting method. I wanted to represent my quilting circle via this miniature quilt. Each of us have a distinct personality and specializes in a different kind of quilting technique at varying levels of skill. When we are together we are 'more than the sum of its parts’ very much like the individual geometric shapes of this quilt which hold their own shapes, yet mean much more when they all come together to form a secondary pattern; magically transforming the shapes and colours into a theme.
Vajra
Vajra
Ritu Sudharshan

Country: India

Dimensions: 81 x 66
Artist Statement/ Description/ Method: I am an 8th grader, who loves math. I wanted to try out an abstract pattern borne out of my fascination with geometry. This is a pattern free design that I would like to call Geometric Improv. I picked out five colours, cut them into 1.5 inch and 2 inch strips and strip pieced them into identical sets. Then, using the 45 degree angle on my quilting ruler, I cut some parallelograms and triangles. I sewed together these shapes with an intentional staggered line as I did not want to match up all the colours when piecing it back together. I think this helped create movement and play in the design. I christened the quilt Vajra because of the thunderbolt design that naturally emerged from my experimentation.
