Dimensions: 157.5 x 157.5 x 1.5
Artist Statement/ Description/ Method: My mother introduced me to drawing rangolis. I remember her creating amazing patterns by joining dots in a particular fashion. One of the patterns that seemed like magic to me was the Hridaya Kamala pattern. In this rangoli, a beautiful and intricate lotus shaped pattern emerges when the rangoli dots are radially joined. My mother told me that drawing this rangoli helps open our hearts like the petals of a lotus and usher in good health and success. I had always wanted to create a quilt with this pattern in my mother's memory, but I never got around to starting it. With the pandemic reducing my professional projects, I finally had the time to create this piece. I hope that this quilt brings good health and prosperity to everyone in 2021.

Jayanthy Ramakrishnan

Country: India

Dimensions: 124 x 89
Artist Statement/ Description/ Method: Ever since I started quilting, I make it a point to visit local quilt shops when I travel. For our 10th wedding anniversary, my husband, daughter and I went to Big Island, Hawaii. Coincidentally, there was a shop-hop in progress on the Big Island and we visited all 6 quilt stores, and got 1 block pattern from each store, along with some additional lovely Hawaiian theme-based fabrics/patterns. While working on the quilt, I have reminisced about the lovely time we had in Hawaii. The quilt captures the lovely sandy beaches as well the landscape that has been shaped by the active volcanoes there. I have put the quilt together using applique techniques and straight line quilting is done for binding the 3 layers.
Floral Friendship
Floral Friendship
Jayanthy Ramakrishnan

Country: India

Dimensions: 163 x 131
Artist Statement/ Description/ Method: This quilt represents the friendship among a group of quilters from Detroit, Michigan, USA. We are a group of 20 quilters who during the Christmas season get together and do a block exchange on a pre-fixed theme. The theme was ‘Flower’ for this quilt. My friends have employed various techniques like applique, paper piecing, embroidery etc. Each person made 20 of the same blocks and in the month of December we exchanged these blocks so that we had 20 different blocks of the flower theme. During this meet, we shared a meal and talked about the block and decided the theme for the following year! Putting this quilt together has given me a lot of joy as I got a chance to relive those moments, I spent with my friends.
